Maple Lake Access

This developed boat ramp at Sunset Park provides access for paddling on Maple lake which is an impoundment behind Maple Lake Dam. You can paddle around the lake and small Maple Isle. You can also paddle south for about one mile and go under the Red Arrow Highway bridge and reach the small La Cantina Basin where the East Branch meets the South Branch flowing over a small dam out of Briggs Pond (also known as Ismons Pond). You may be able to paddle a short way up the East Branch. You can also exit your boat on the west side of the basin and before the waterfall and carry your boat up the steps to access Briggs Pond upstream of the small dam. IMPORTANT, if you want to paddle downstream on the Paw Paw River, you need to walk across 51st Ave from Sunset Park and take the steps to the base of Maple Lake Dam to access the river.

To find this access, take I-94 to the Paw Paw exit (#60) and go north through town on M-40. Continue north out of town on M-40 and you will see the entrance to Sunset Park parking lot on your left, just before the intersection with 51st Ave.
