Erie Metro Park has two sheltered launch points.  It is ideally located for paddling in anything from many sheltered channels, large river shipping channels, many islands, to open water on Lake Erie.  South to Southeast winds will create wave conditions out in the open Lake areas and the base of the Detroit River to amuse the Intermediate to Expert Paddler.  They are not recommended for paddlers who are inexperienced, or ill equipped for self-rescue.  On these days there is plenty to see in the various channels.  Wildlife refuges and key rest stops on the bird migration routes surround the Park, offering viewing of huge flocks of birds and raptors.  Deer congest the park roads.  Hiking, water park, marina, bike trails, golf course, bird watching, and the Marshlands Nature Center - with many programs, offer something for everyone.
