This is a 6.7 mile paddle from 121st Street Access to Oval Beach near Saugatuck/Douglas. This stretch has many high bluffs with few resting/beach areas. Chicago Tribune rated Oval Beach #1 among the Midwest's top five beaches and also ranked it the best beach on Lake Michigan.  Behind Oval Beach is the magnificent Mt. Baldhead, a 600 foot tall dune that overlooks Lake Michigan.  You can see Mt. Baldhead from many location around Saugatuck as well as from Lake Michigan.  There is a large white ball atop the dune that actually is an old World War II radar station that was used to detect planes coming over the Great Lakes.   Scroll down to the map for access locations.
