The Sable Points Water Trail is an extension of the Ludington State Park Canoe Trail in Mason County to allow paddlers to reach Silver Lake State Park in Oceana County – a distance of 35 miles! The route along the coast of Lake Michigan passes three of Michigan's four dune types: parabolic dunes near Ludington State Park, perched dunes surrounding the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant and Silver Lake and linear Dunes near the coastal town of Pentwater. Six rivers and streams reaching Lake Michigan can be explored along this trail, as well as three unique coastal communities that each feature a State Park along with four municipal or private campgrounds with Lake Michigan access.
